A way to obtaining an equal participation of women in male dominant public sphere is to provide platforms with limited access to women only in its administration and operation. BMB – Bharatiya Mahila Bank, will focus only on funding women and women’s self help group though there is no restriction upon deposits made by men. “The Bank’s main objective is to empower and educate women financially,” Usha Ananthasubramanian, chairperson of the bank. However, it is still left to be seen whether such a noble step will be able to function outside the larger pattern of bureaucracy qand curruption within the state mechanisms. Also the response of the men awaits to be observed as women’s autonomy over the economic relations in which they are embedded also means that the men in their life have to let go of their priviledges.
