Sonia cites Nirbhaya case to highlight women’s safety, gender concerns

NEW DELHI: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Sunday said that the death of Nirbhaya will not go in vain, while her party advocated reservation for women in government at all levels.

Touching upon the issue of safety of women in her address to her party colleagues on the concluding day of chintan shiver (brainstorming session), Sonia described the gang-rape victim as a symbol of both aspirational India as well as the violence and injustice that women and children have to suffer. She even empathized with the outrage over the horrific crime.
